Özet: Yedi Krallık diyarının kralı olan Robert Baratheon beklenmedik bir zamanda hayatını kaybederek Demir Taht'ı çocukluk arkadaşı olan Eddard Stark'a bıraktığını vasiyet eder. Eddard etrafındaki sinsilik ve kokuşmuşluktan dolayı kime güveneceğini bilemez. Demir Taht'ın eski soy varisleri için de beklenen an gelmiştir. Böylece, bu boşluktan yararlanarak Demir Taht'a oturmak isteyen hanedanlar arasındaki amansız savaş başlar. Dost ile düşmanın, yalan ile gerçeğin birbirine girdiği bu dönemde Yedi Krallık için zor zamanlar da usulca yaklaşmaktadır. Ufukta bir ömür süren kış kendini gösterir ve kış ile beraber Kuzey'de, Kara Nöbet'in ardında bilinmeyen karanlık bir güç de Yedi Krallık üzerine korku salar. Tüm bu hengamenin içinde ise, Demir Taht sahibini beklemektedir.
