Özet: Jefferson Pierce’in (Cress Williams) bir sırrı vardır. Özel bir lise müdürü ve iki çocuk babası olan Jefferson aynı zamanda New Orleans’taki mahallesinin küçük insanlarını, şehri kuşatan şiddetten korumaktadır. Dokuz yıl önce Pierce bir bakıma kahramandı. Bir zırh giyerdi ve elektriği kontrol edebilme yeteneği vardı ve memleketinin sokaklarını Black Lightning maskesiyle korurdu. Zamanla bu ikinci kimliği aile ilişkilerine zarar verince süper kahraman günlerini geride bırakmış, müdür olmuş ve çoluk çocuğa karışmıştır. Süper güçleri olmadan şehre yardım etmeyi tercih etmiş, kızları Anissa (Nafessa Williams) ve Jennifer’ın (China Anne McClain) güçlü küçük kadınlara dönüşümünü izlemiştir; karısı Lynn (Christine Adams) ile ilişkilerini iyileştirememiş olsa bile… Şimdi, neredeyse 10 yıl geçtikten sonra Pierce’in suçlularla savaştığı günler geri gelecektir. Suçlar ve yozlaşmış düzen, söndürülmesi güç bir ateş gibi yayılırken Jefferson, “100” denen bölgesel çeteyi yönetmeye karar verir. Şimdi sadece ailesini değil, çevresindeki herkesin ruhunu kurtaracaktır.
