Özet: Nathan Appleby (Colin Morgan) ve karısı Charlotte Appleby (Charlotte Spencer), Nathan’ın hasta olan annesini ziyaret için Summerset’e gelirler. Ancak Nathan ve eşi, köylülerle birlikte yaz gündönümü ateşini yakmaktayken annesi vefat edince, bu koca arazi de Nathan ve eşine kalır. Genç çift, Londra’da tanışıp evlenmişlerdir. Tam bir beyefendi olan psikiyatrist Nathan ve dönemine göre dikkat çekici derecede güçlü bir kadın olan fotoğrafa meraklı Charlotte, kırsalda kalmaya ve aileden kalan tarım arazisini yönetmeye karar verirler. Fakat, bu toprak ve bu evle ilgili kederli bir gerçek vardır. Nathan’ın kimliğinden hiç söz edilmeyen eski eşinden olan oğlu, evin hemen yakınındaki gölette boğulmuş, Nathan onu kurtaramamıştır.
